Is Ariana Grande The ‘Next Mariah Carey’?
A$AP Ferg definitely thinks so.
by nadeska alexis 7/6/2014
(A$AP Ferg compares Ariana Grande to Mariah Carey)
There’s no doubt that Ariana Grande is talented and beautiful, with a few big hits under her belt already, but is the 21-year-old destined for a career that can rival Mariah Carey’s? A$AP Ferg, for one, definitely thinks so.

The Harlem rapper, who released his debut album Trap Lord last year, is featured on Ariana’s upcoming second LP, My Everything, on the song “Hands On Me,” and he has big predictions for her future.

“She’s the next Mariah Carey. She’s dope,” Ferg told MTV News on the BET Awards red carpet last weekend. “And that’s not an understatement, or an overstatement — I just see her as that next big voice that’s gonna pop.”

In regards to their collaboration on “Hands On Me,” he would only say that “it’s a dope song,” and he can’t wait for us to hear it.

We haven’t heard Ferg on many pop collaborations yet, he says that it’s all coming together organically.

“It’s not really strange because I do a lot of festivals, like Coachella, Bonnaroo [and] people don’t see what happens behind stage,” he explained. “I’m a rapper, but Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas comes to my trailer, I’m hanging out with Selena Gomez… and all of these people that love my music.”

“So it’s just about that time we put the art together.”

Soulful Sunday Bio
Davis Eli "David" Ruffin (January 18, 1941 – June 1, 1991) was an American soul singer and musician most famous for his work as one of the lead singers of the Temptations from 1964 to 1968 (or the group's "Classic Five" period as it was later known). He was the lead voice on such famous songs as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg."

Known for his unique raspy and anguished tenor vocals, Ruffin was ranked as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2008.[1] He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 for his work with the Temptations.[2] Fellow Motown recording artist Marvin Gaye once said admiringly of Ruffin that, "I heard [in his voice] a strength my own voice lacked."[1]

Pink Floyd freaks everywhere are all a-twitter about the news that the British prog-rock giants will apparently release their first album in 20 years, titled The Endless River, in three months.

Just six hours ago David Gilmour‘s wife, author Polly Samson–who cowrote the lyrics to most of the songs on Floyd’s 1994 album, The Division Bell–tweeted this message:

Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called “The Endless River”. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.

Wright was the original keyboardist for Pink Floyd, who died of cancer in 2008 at the age of 65. Here’s what Gilmour had to say about him at the time of his passing:

No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend. In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick’s enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming, and private, but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound. I have never played with anyone quite like him. The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on ‘Echoes’. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow. After all, without ‘Us and Them’ and ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’, both of which he wrote, what would ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ have been? Without his quiet touch, the album ‘Wish You Were Here’ would not quite have worked. In our middle years, for many reasons, he lost his way for a while; but in the early Nineties, with ‘The Division Bell’, his vitality, spark and humour returned to him, and then the audience reaction to his appearances on my tour in 2006 was hugely uplifting and it’s a mark of his modesty that those standing ovations came as a huge surprise to him (though not to the rest of us). Like Rick, I don’t find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously.
Apparently, Pink Floyd’s management wasn’t thrilled with Samson’s news-breaking tweet. Nor were they impressed when vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson–who performed with Floyd at their 1994 concert in Vancouver–posted this photo to her Facebook page, with the message: “YES. THERE IS A PINK FLOYD ALBUM COMING OUT. AND I’M ON IT. And there was much rejoicing.”

HERE’S THE FIRST official trailer for the long-gestating Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side, starring André 3000 as the mercurial guitar hero.

Written and directed by 12 Years A Slave scriptwriter John Ridley, the movie charts Hendrix’s rise to stardom throughout 1966 and 1967. Imogen Poots plays Linda Keith – the woman responsible for launching Jimi’s career in London – while Haley Atwell appears as Hendrix’s long-term girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.

Sadly, the film won’t contain any Hendrix songs. Since 2012, the Hendrix Estate has refused to let the filmmakers use his music.
